The Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles is an international women-only off-road rally held in the Moroccan desert, built around a unique navigation-based sporting concept. Created in 1989, the event challenges teams of two women to navigate without GPS, phones, or speed objectives, using only a map, compass, and navigation tools. The goal is not to be the fastest, but to reach a series of checkpoints while covering the shortest possible distance, making strategy, precision, and teamwork central to performance. The rally unfolds over several stages in southern Morocco, including a prologue, multiple off-road navigation stages, and marathon stages requiring full autonomy away from the bivouac. Competitors cross diverse desert terrains such as dunes, dry riverbeds, rocky plains, and mountains, facing sustained physical and mental demands. Beyond competition, the event emphasizes environmental respect, self-reliance, and personal achievement, concluding with a final arrival on the Atlantic coast at Essaouira.
